Co-occurring Treatment in Media, PA

When substance use and mental health symptoms affect each other, treating only one can leave important needs unmet. Co-occurring care brings both into the same conversation and the same individualized plan.

PHP and IOP optionsSchedule confirmed with admissionsCase management and continuing care

You should not have to split your story in two.

Alcohol may become a way to quiet anxiety. Depression may make it harder to maintain recovery routines. Trauma symptoms and substance use can reinforce each other. These patterns need careful assessment, not an assumption that one concern will disappear if the other is treated.

Co-occurring care is available within both our dedicated mental health program and our addiction treatment program in Media. It is an integrated approach, not a third physical location. The assessment helps determine the program and intensity of care that fit your primary needs while addressing both concerns.

When this level of care may help

  • Substance use occurs alongside depression, anxiety or trauma.
  • Mental health symptoms make recovery harder to sustain.
  • You need coordinated therapy and medication follow-up.
  • Previous care addressed one concern but left the other disconnected.

An assessment determines the right level of care. PHP and IOP do not provide overnight monitoring or emergency stabilization.

Some situations call for a higher level of care.

Partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs do not provide overnight monitoring, supervised medical withdrawal or emergency stabilization. If you or someone you love may need 24-hour support, tell our team what is happening. We can talk through what you need and help point you toward a setting that fits, including a more intensive level of care.

Modalities in this program

Many proven therapies, one plan. Your clinician combines the approaches below into an individual plan built around your goals and your life.

One coordinated plan. The right level of support.

Co-occurring care is available through mental health IOP and addiction PHP or IOP, depending on your clinical needs. Addiction PHP runs Monday through Friday for six hours daily. Admissions confirms current IOP schedules. Both program tracks build a plan for what happens outside treatment hours.

01

Understand the relationship

Look at how symptoms, substance use and everyday stress interact, including what changes during periods without substance use.

02

Treat the whole person

Combine therapy, practical recovery skills and discussion of psychiatric or addiction medication needs when appropriate.

03

Coordinate instead of fragmenting

With your authorization, connect the program with existing therapists, psychiatrists and other involved professionals so goals and follow-up do not work at cross-purposes.

Coordinated care while you are here

Your sessions stay focused on treatment.
The coordination stays handled.

Treatment goes easier when the practical side is not on your shoulders. Case management works alongside your clinical team during the program, keeping providers, paperwork, appointments and family contacts connected so your time in session stays where it belongs.

01

One point of contact

You have a named person who keeps track of your schedule, providers and paperwork, so questions do not have to bounce between offices while you are in the program.

02

Your providers stay in the loop

With your written authorization, we coordinate with your therapist, primary care doctor or psychiatrist, so everyone involved works from the same plan.

03

Practical barriers get addressed

Transportation, scheduling conflicts, benefits questions and referrals are handled as part of treatment, not left for you to solve between sessions.

04

Progress you can see

Your plan is reviewed with your team on a regular basis, so goals, sessions and outside appointments reflect where you are now, not where you started.

Your privacy comes first. Information sharing follows your authorization and applicable confidentiality requirements. Referrals and outside appointments depend on provider availability.

Working with your care team How case management works

FMLA and short-term disability paperwork should not be your job.

If you are eligible for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act, or for income through a short-term disability policy, case management handles the forms, the reminders and the communication with your employer or carrier so you can focus on getting better.

  • Forms prepared and submitted

Leave requests usually need clinical details, dates and provider signatures. Case management completes what falls to us and tracks the follow-up so nothing sits unfinished.

  • Short-term disability claims

A disability policy usually asks your treating clinician to describe the condition, the expected duration of care and any limits on working. Case management prepares what falls to us, notes what the carrier still needs and tracks each deadline so a certification is not filed late.

  • Employer and benefits contact

With your written authorization, we answer HR, leave administrators or benefit carriers directly, so requests reach the office instead of interrupting your session.

  • A planned return

Attendance records and treatment updates support your leave request, and the same coordination helps stage your return to work around the care you still need.

FMLA eligibility, approved leave and short-term disability benefits depend on your employer, your policy and your situation. We complete the documentation we are able to provide and cannot determine your benefits or guarantee approval. Ask about leave and disability paperwork

Different approaches. Your individual plan.

Treatment draws on evidence-based and whole-person approaches. Your clinician helps select the methods that fit your goals, symptoms and stage of recovery.

CBT and DBT-informed skills

Address unhelpful thought patterns, emotional regulation and distress tolerance while connecting those skills to both symptom management and recovery.

Motivational interviewing

Explore ambivalence and personal goals in a nonjudgmental way. Changes in substance use and mental health care can move forward together.

Individual, group and family work

Make space for private concerns, shared learning and supportive relationships. Family involvement is considered with your permission and according to your needs.

Medication and whole-person support

Psychiatric medication management and MAT may play different roles in your plan. Clinical review, prescriber coordination and holistic therapies support the broader treatment work.

Medication and medical support

Psychiatric medication management and medication-assisted treatment for substance use may support care when clinically appropriate. Review prescriptions, response and follow-up needs with the team. Outpatient care is not a substitute for supervised detox.

Family and life skills

Practice routines, communication, boundaries and stress management. With your permission, family involvement can help supportive people understand your needs and the role they can play during and after treatment.

Care shaped around what you are facing.

A diagnosis alone does not determine admission. The assessment considers your symptoms, safety, functioning and support needs to decide whether this program is appropriate.

Aftercare that keeps both concerns in view.

A continuing-care plan should address mental health symptoms and substance use together. That may mean coordinating ongoing therapy, psychiatric follow-up, recovery supports and a shared plan for warning signs. When transitioning from addiction PHP to IOP or continuing care after mental health IOP, your team reviews how both parts of your care will remain connected.

Connecting the dots

Case management ties appointments, providers, medication follow-up and paperwork together, so nothing gets lost between levels of care or after your last day of treatment.

Set up for life after treatment

Work, school, family and daily routines are part of the plan. Before you step down, your plan fits the schedule and responsibilities you are returning to.

Connected to the right resources

From outpatient providers and recovery groups to benefits, employment and community services, case management points you toward resources that match your needs and stay reachable after treatment.

Questions about co-occurring care

Is co-occurring care a separate location?

No. Co-occurring care is available at both the mental health and addiction program locations in Media. An assessment helps identify the best program for your needs.

Which concern is treated first?

Both concerns inform the treatment plan. Immediate safety, withdrawal or acute psychiatric needs may require a higher level of care first. Ongoing outpatient treatment then addresses how the concerns interact.

What if I do not have a formal diagnosis?

You do not need to arrive with every answer. Describe your symptoms, substance use and treatment history during the assessment so the team can discuss an appropriate starting point.

Will insurance cover co-occurring treatment?

Coverage is checked for the center and level of care recommended after assessment. R&D Wellness works with most major insurance carriers and verifies all coverage for mental health IOP. R&D Center is in network with most plans for addiction PHP and IOP. Admissions reviews your individual benefits, authorization requirements and expected out-of-pocket costs; coverage is not guaranteed.

What schedule and length of care should I expect?

Your assessment guides whether mental health IOP, addiction PHP or addiction IOP is appropriate. Addiction PHP runs Monday through Friday for six hours per day; admissions confirms current IOP days and hours. Treatment length depends on your needs and progress. Step-down and aftercare planning keep both mental health and substance use concerns in view.

Can co-occurring care be provided virtually in Pennsylvania?

Ask admissions about current virtual care options across Pennsylvania for the program recommended to you. Availability, clinical appropriateness, safety and coverage are reviewed individually. Do not assume every level of care is offered virtually. Withdrawal monitoring and acute psychiatric stabilization may require an in-person higher level of care.

How do I get started if I need help with both mental health and substance use?

Call admissions or submit an insurance verification request and describe both concerns. The assessment considers symptoms, substance use, safety, existing providers and support needs to recommend a center and level of care. Before starting, the team reviews coverage, scheduling and first-session expectations. Referrals can be coordinated if a higher level of care is needed first.

Can case management help with FMLA, disability paperwork and connected aftercare?

Yes. Case management is included in every program at no extra charge. With your authorization, the team helps coordinate providers, treatment documentation, leave or disability paperwork and continuing care for both concerns. Employers and carriers determine eligibility and benefit approval, so we cannot guarantee leave, income benefits or an outside provider appointment.
